The BAU team must catch a sniper who preys on victims in the middle of the day.
The peace of a sunny afternoon in Franklin Public Park, Des Plaines, Illinois, is shattered when three people are shot at long-range by an unidentified gunman – the third such incident in two weeks.
“How many of these guys have we caught using a profile?” wonders Elle, when the BAU are informed.
Gideon’s answer is not encouraging: “None.”
The problem is that shooters of this type – the preferred term being ‘Long Distance Serial Killer’, or ‘LDSK’ – are so rare that there is not yet a standard profile.
But none of the victims saw their assailant; and there is no ballistics evidence, as the shooter uses bullets which fragment on impact.
On the way to Des Plaines, Hotch briefs the team on what they do know.
