Bryar gives the authorities one hour to arrange removal of this chip.
But even if they sent an agent into the train, how could they fake the procedure without Bryar noticing?
Suddenly Reid has an idea:
he offers to go in, pose as a technician who is working for the higher authority, and use hithertounrevealed sleight-of-hand skills to trick Bryar into believing that Reid has removed something from his skin.
Morgan and Gideon are reluctant to agree to this, but eventually realise that they have no other choice.
With a SWAT team standing by, Reid makes his way into the carriage.
Bryar submits to him and is amazed when the chip is apparently taken from his skin but then throws Reid a curveball by demanding that the agent turn it on.
Reid has no idea what to do: he was told by Gideon that he should exit the train as soon as he had removed the chip.
Bryar realises that something is amiss, and tells Gideon: I said it all ends today. Me. These agents. It all ends today.
The agents realise that Bryar has now decided on an endgame:
he plans to kill himself and all of the hostages.
Gideon decides that he has no choice but to send the SWAT team in:
a risky strategy which will most likely result in one or more deaths.
If you send those men in, hostages are going to die, says Morgan, begging Gideon to reconsider.
If we dont do anything, replies Gideon, theyre going to die anyway.
Before Gideon can give the order, he notices that Reid has begun to speak earnestly to the gunman.
What has the young agent got up his sleeve?
