Monday, April 21 will see the premiere of the single drama Tommy Cooper: Not Like That, Like This, written by Simon Nye and produced by multi award-winning production company Left Bank Pictures.

The dilemmas that the much-loved comedian faced are explored throughout the show, including his falling in love with assistant Mary Kay which saw him set off on a relationship that was to last 17 years.

Married to Gwen who he adored and nicknamed Dove, Tommy was unable to choose between the two females in his life, and his untimely death live on air in 1984 meant he never did.

Shameless star David Threlfall looks like never before as he steps into the role of the iconic comedian, and is joined by Amanda Redman who portrays his wife Gwen, and Helen McCrory as his lover and assistant, Mary.

With an extensive tour schedule, Tommy's work begins to affect his home life with his 'Dove', and she decides it's time she stops going on the road with him.

He continued to travel the country with his visual humour and ingenious magic tricks, but Dove realised she had to remain home to run the house, and look after their children Tom Junior and Vicky.
