Best mates around the globe are today celebrating International Friendship Day (July 30), so we’ve decided to delve into the world of television and bring some of the best friendships we’ve ever seen on the small screen to our readers! Do these five friendships make your ‘greatest’ list?

5. Game of Thrones – Jon Snow and Samwell Tarly (Season 7 now streaming on NOW TV)

Ever since the show’s first season, Jon Snow has been sticking up for Samwell Tarly when everybody else would turn their back on him. He may not be the strongest, fittest, most handsome guy around, but Jon realised quickly that this didn’t make him a bad person. In fact, he formed a friendship with Sam, quickly recognising his intelligence and coming to realise that he was one of the best friends a guy like Jon could hope for. Both shunned by many, the two relied on one another for various things and still to this day help one another out in Game of Thrones scenes. It’s a bromance like no other.

4. Doctor Who - The Doctor and Rose Tyler

There’s been a brilliant array of Doctor and companion combinations throughout the years, but David Tennant and Billie Piper’s portrayal of the Doctor and Rose Tyler was without a doubt the absolute best. The enthusiasm the pair shared for their adventures meant that they shared some of the most addictive and compelling episodes the show has ever seen. Fans have never been as happy with a pairing than they were with these two.

3. Grey’s Anatomy - Meredith Grey and Cristina Yang (Seasons 1-12 available on NOW TV)

These Twisted Sisters are a formidable pair that you’d be foolish to ever get on the wrong side of. There to pick each other up when the other one falls, their traditionally different personalities mean they can balance one another out like in the most brilliant of ways. Often telling each other that they’re one another’s “person”, this friendship has inspired millions of fans across the globe to bond closer than ever before. And when something goes wrong? Simply dance it out.

2. Sherlock – Sherlock Holmes and Dr. Watson

There’s no denying the incredible success of BBC’s Benedict Cumberbatch and Martin Freeman-led Sherlock series. That’s undeniably down to the brilliant chemistry the two actors share when working together, which allows their characters to really shine whenever they share the screen. The fan base who have dedicated so much time to the show throughout the years are willing to wait for however long it takes before new episodes hit TV, and that’s down to the brilliance of this pair.

1. Friends – Chandler and Joey (Available to stream on NOW TV)

Despite being complete opposites, the friendship between Chandler and Joey was one of the most brilliant things television has ever seen. Throughout all the seasons of Friends, we saw them go through some brilliant ups and some major low points, but for all of that they managed to come together whenever each other needed to. Plus, they had some really funny moments in the series, keeping a duck in their apartment and bouncing jokes off of one another whenever they had the opportunity.
