Episode 1After watching the highs and lows, the tears and tantrums and the bitching and backstabbing of the massively popular Americas Next Top Model, Britain finally has its own version of the show exclusive to Living TV. Britain's Next Top Model follows 12 fresh faced wannabe models selected from all over the country as they transform from pretty ordinary to dam right fierce. All with a little help from fashion experts, stylists and personal trainers in the hopes of becoming Britain's Next Top Model. Only one girl will win the coveted title. They will receive a cosmetic campaign with Ruby and Miller, a fashion spread in B magazine and a contract with Europe's biggest and most successful agency Models 1. Instead of Tyra Banks our host is supermodel Lisa Butcher.
The Girls
Anne: 21 years old from Sheffield, a strange beauty, a Christian and has a 2 year old son. Claire: 20 from Wales, sees modelling as her ticket to get out. Edwina: 18 from Bristol, a Media student, Britain's very own Yaya. Hayley: Barmaid, 19 years old from West Sussex. Jenilee: 20 years old from Kent, works in a bingo hall, but they wont let her read the numbers, sounds like Jordan. Lucy: 20 from Tyne and Wear also a barmaid. Marina: Student, 18 years old from Cheshire. Marisa: Hard faced politics student, mini Thatcher in training. Naomi: 22 from Leeds, says she's a very competitive person. Shauna: 23 from Northern Ireland, is 'very' pear shaped. Stephanie: 22 from Birmingham, loves fashion. Tashi: 24 from Leeds, has a five-year-old daughter and used to be a size 20.The girls all met on a classic red double-decker bus and were taken to an East London bar to meet Lisa who will teach them the ins and outs of the fashion industry. They are then taken to their first assignment, a catwalk show in the middle of a busy London street. They are introduced to their stylist Hilary Alexander who gives them clothes and 15minutes to do their own hair and makeup. After the first run they have a costume change into nude swimsuits, so the judges can see their walk without the restriction of clothes. Edwina was fierce, Shauna had a terrible jiggly ass and Marisa looked like she was going to a funeral. Anne was the first to crack after receiving the sharp end of the Lisa's tongue because she talked as she was walking and nearly fell off the runway. The girls were then taken to their flash apartment where they will share rooms. They met trainer Gideon and received their first 'Lisa mail' telling them they would be going to dinner at Hush. The next day the girls awake to a 'Brazilian' bikini wax, with Claire complaining she didn't want to get her 'burger' out in front of the other girls, classy.Next up, another catwalk lesson with expert Angela Dunn. The girls got into competition mode as they fought to pick the best clothes in only two minutes. Anna once again received criticism, this time from Angela because she came onto the catwalk wearing socks with her dress tags showing.Edwina won the first challenge. She picked Marina and Naomi to share the prize, their own pod ride on the London eye, with massages and free champagne.
That night the girls are told they have to be up at 5am to do a PR photo shoot. One will be shot in black the other in a white bikini. After the shoot the bitching starts when Tashi calls a house meeting because Anna read the 'Lisa mail' without telling the other girls.
First elimination: Judges are Lisa, Marie Helvin and Jonathan Phang a fashion booker who has worked with many famous supermodels and guest judge Angela Dunn. The judges are fairly impressed with the girls but it comes down to Marina and Shauna. The judges decided Marina's journey ends there. They thought she was one dimensional, too short and didn't have much of a personality.
The first show of Britain's Next Top Model was better than I thought it would be after the disaster that was 'Make Me A Supermodel.' But then Tyra wouldn't have it any other way. Yes, we don't have Tyra the fabulous Miss J, the gravity defying Janice or the totally gorgeous Nigel Barker and Lisa mail doesn't quite have the same ring to it, but the girls are fun and they do have some personality.
It will be interesting to watch them transform from ugly ducklings, bingo callers and barmaids to diva-like catwalk models with a lot of bitching and cat fighting along the way. Femalefirst will keep you up to date throughout the series.
