David's still The Doctor

23-03-2007 13:00

David Tennant has signed a £1million deal to star in the fourth series of 'Doctor Who'.

Despite reports that the actor was planning to quit the hit BBC show half way through the next series, David has pledged to continue for the full run, it was revealed last night (22.03.07).

A source told Britain's Daily Mirror newspaper: "To be honest, David was never going anywhere. He loves to create an air of mystery about his role in 'Doctor Who', and when he might leave, so he's happy for people to speculate about his departure.

"But the truth is he's finished filming the third series and he's signed a contract to appear in the whole of the next series. That will see him filming throughout 2008. It's brilliant for the show and the fans."

The announcement comes on the same day it was revealed that 'Little Britain' star Matt Lucas was keen to take over as the legendary time lord when David eventually left.

A source told Britain's The Sun newspaper: "Matt would love to be in 'Doctor Who'. I can see him playing the part."

Rumours as to when 35-year-old David would leave began after he said he had "made a decision" about when he was leaving the cult show, and said, "It's judging the right moment to go. Anything can happen".
