Denise Van Outen's sunbed warning

Denise Van Outen has revealed she has been left with permanent pigmentation scars on her face caused by sunbeds.

The 'I'd Do Anything' judge used to go under the harsh UV light to ensure she was tanned enough for her TV appearances, but is paying for it now.

She said: "I used a sunbed when I was 18 because I didn't know the risks, but I'm paying for it now. It's my big regret - I have pigmentation problems on my face."

The 33-year-old beauty now relies on make-up to hide the scars, but is warning young women to stay away from the dangerous machines.

She added: "Girls are still using sunbeds, risking skin cancer for a tan. Tans fade and it's not worth the risk. Now my tan is from a bottle and safe."

Young women who are addicted to tanning, dubbed 'tanorexics', are doing serious damage to their bodies and skin, according to Cancer Research UK, who warn: "Sunbeds aren't a safe alternative to tanning. Like the sun, sunbeds give out harmful UV rays which damage the DNA in our skin cells and can cause skin cancer.

"The more you use a sunbed, the greater your risk of skin cancer. Using a sunbed once a month or more can increase your risk of skin cancer by more than half. So when the tan fades, the damage remains."
