Gareth Gate's 'unlucky' G-string

'Dancing On Ice' reject Gareth Gates says he was voted off the talent show because his "lucky" G-string let him down.

The singer - who was axed from the programme on Sunday (09.03.08) after being in the bottom two with ex 'Coronation Street' star Zaraah Abrahams - says the pink and purple sequinned jockstrap he came to think of as his lucky charm let him down at the last hurdle.

He said: "I'd never worn a jockstrap before and now I'm out of the show I hope I'll never have to wear another one. I don't know what happened but they let me down at the last hurdle.

"I must admit they looked amazing when they were on but were the most uncomfortable thing I have ever worn - incredibly painful as I was performing on the ice."

The 23-year-old 'Pop Idol' runner-up also said he hopes to continue ice skating despite leaving the show before next weekend's final.

He added to British morning show 'GMTV': "It's been an amazing experience and I finished on a real high. I gave my all and that's all I could do. I was hopeless when I first started but now I'm a pretty good skater and I feel I've learned a new sport, which is great.

"I felt I had a harder journey than some of the other contestants because they'd skated or had dance training and I hadn't been on skates before."
