'Strictly' Boosts Jo Wood's Confidence

'Strictly Come Dancing' is giving a huge boost to Jo Wood's confidence, according to her daughter.

Leah Wood told how the breakup of Jo's marriage to Rolling Stones guitarist Ronnie Wood has been a massive blow to their family, but appearing on the BBC ballroom dancing show is helping her to recover and start fresh.

Leah said: "She's doing all the things she's wanted to do in the past, and good for her.

"If I was in her situation and hadn't been able to do the things I wanted to do, I'd spread my wings and go for it.

"She seems so much happier now and going on 'Strictly Come Dancing' will boost her confidence no end."

Former model Jo, 53, has so far found the reality show rehearsals tough, and has been spotted in tears twice since last week, after being pushed into gruelling routines by dance partner Brendan Cole.

I think there'll be plenty of tears from Jo, but Brendan is good, he tries to get the best out of somebody and he may be a bit of a slave driver, but it does get the best results.

One of Brendan's former dancing partners, 'Bad Girls' actress Claire King - who appeared in the fourth series of the show - said she could sympathise with Jo, but said the result will be worth it.

Claire told BANG Showbiz: "I think there'll be plenty of tears from Jo, but Brendan is good, he tries to get the best out of somebody and he may be a bit of a slave driver, but it does get the best results."

Meanwhile, a special edition of 'Strictly Come Dancing' will be broadcast from the historic Tower Ballroom in from Blackpool - the town widely accepted as the home of ballroom dancing in Britain - On November 7.

The show last broadcast from the Tower Ballroom for the final of second series in 2004.

'Strictly Come Dancing' series nine will begin next Friday (18.09.09).
