'X Factor' fans are outraged Simon Cowell decided to save John and Edward last night (08.11.09).
Viewers of the ITV reality show lashed out at the judge's shock vote to save the twins - whom he has routinely criticised and called "vile" - putting the judges at a deadlock decision.
The results were then decided by who got the most votes from the public, meaning Welsh singer Lucie Jones was sent home.
Before giving his decision, Simon had said: "Who would I like to see again? I would probably prefer to see the boys."
Louis Walsh - who mentors the groups - also chose to save his act while Cheryl Cole and Dannii Minogue supported 18-year-old Lucie.
Later, Simon tried to defend his decision, claiming he opted for the public's decision because he had no preference between the two acts.
He said: "You make a decision based on the moment. I didn't have strong feelings either way. If either were going to win the competition, I would have done the right thing.
"But it's not my fault that those two artists were in the bottom two. But that's the way it is. It's not life and death. I wasn't expecting that result if I were to gamble, I wouldn't have expected that."
I wish all the good singers in this singing competition the best of luck
After Simon cast his vote, a visibly upset Dannii criticised her fellow judge.
She said: "I wish all the good singers in this singing competition the best of luck. It shouldn't have happened."
Distraught Lucie added: "It just goes to show that anything can happen. Honestly, the boys deserved to go through. They work harder than anyone."
John and Edward, also 18, were met with a mixture of boos and cheers as they performed 'Ghostbusters' on Saturday night's show (07.11.09) and a rendition of Robbie Williams 'Rock DJ' in last night's sing-off.
On Saturday, Lucie had been praised for her vocals on 'Camp Rock' song 'This Is Me', but her version of 'One Moment in Time' last night was not enough to secure her place on the show.
