EastEnders beats Coronation Street to the title of best soap at the Inside Soap awards. In the closest run contest each series won six awards, with an outstanding achievement award going to Coronation Street star Sue Nicholls. But EastEnders took the top prize for the fourth year running, but the margin between the two was just 2% more of the readers' votes. The winner of the best ‘snog’ was the gay kiss between Coronation Street characters Todd and Karl, played by Bruno Langley and Chris Finch. The Editor of the magazine ‘inside Soap said this year the contest was tougher than ever, which proved that British soaps are going from strength to strength with each passing year. Nigel Harman was named best actor and sexiest male, while Sam Aston won the best young actor and best newcomer prizes. June Brown was named best actress for her long-running character Dot Branning, while Shane Richie and Jessie Wallace were crowned soap's best couple as Kat and Alfie Moon.The show's Charlie Brooks won in the "best bitch" award for her part as the murderous Janine Evans.
Meanwhile Coronation Street's Suranne Jones, who plays Karen McDonald, was named sexiest female and the show's Tracy Barlow and Steve McDonald baby secret plot earned the best storyline award.,/p>
Police soap The Bill took the best drama award, while Emmerdale's Cain Dingle, played by Jeff Hordley, was named "best bad guy".
