Alesha Dixon Seeks Cheryl's TV Advice

Alesha Dixon has turned to Cheryl Cole for TV presenting advice.

The 'Strictly Come Dancing' judge - whose appearances on the BBC show have been widely criticised - became close friends with 'The X Factor' panellist when they climbed Mount Kilimanjaro for charity together last year, and is convinced she can help her win public support.

It's not unusual for them to call one another, which they have been doing a lot recently

A source said: "It's not unusual for them to call one another, which they have been doing a lot recently. Alesha had really put the work in before her first appearance on 'Strictly Come Dancing' and admitted to Cheryl she'd trawled through old tapes of her on 'The X Factor' for inspiration.

"She was clearly doing her best to inject some fun into the panel on her first show, but her personality didn't shine through."

More than 4,100 people complained about Alesha's debut on the show.

The 30-year-old singer was drafted in to replace 66-year-old Arlene Phillips, sparking claims of ageism.

Girls Aloud singer Cheryl - whose public profile soared after she began appearing on 'The X Factor' last year - has advised Alesha not to let the criticism get to her.

The source added: "She told her to be herself. Alesha's actually chatty and fiery, but that isn't what the nation saw. Cheryl said things wouldn't improve unless she becomes Alesha again, which really helped her realise her potential."

Meanwhile, Olympic swimmer Mark Foster - a former contestant on 'Strictly'- has come forward in support of Alesha, saying he prefers her to Arlene.

He said: "Just like the contestants, she is getting better and better. She brings a freshness and charisma to the judging panel.

"It has nothing to do with ageism, but I think the show needed a shake-up."
