Victoria Wood was the big winner at the TV BAFTA Awards last night (20.05.07).The comedienne was named Best Actress for her role in wartime drama 'Housewife, 49' - which also won Best Single Drama.Accepting her award, Victoria said: "I didn't bring any jokes because I wasn't expecting to get either of them."Victoria, who beat Samantha Morton, Anne-Marie Duff and Ruth Wilson to the award, insisted her competitors still have years of success to look forward to.She joked: "They have got a long time ahead of them to win this because I'm quite old now."The biggest shock of the night came when BBC medical drama 'Casualty' won Best Continuing Drama - ahead of 'EastEnders', 'Coronation Street' and 'Emmerdale'.'Coronation Street' has been victorious for the past three years, but many expected 'EastEnders' to pick up the top soap award at the glitzy London Palladium bash.

Ian Bleasdale, who plays paramedic Josh Griffiths in 'Casualty', said: "To the doctors, nurses and ambulance crews - thank you for doing what you do. I hope we go some way to showing exactly what it is."

Ricky Gervais picked up his seventh BAFTA last night - for his role in 'Extras'.

The actor pipped co-star Stephen Merchant to the Best Comedy Performance, but Stephen was asked to collect the award because Ricky was unable to attend.

Stephen, who won the award last year, joked: "He could have mentioned this before. Talk about rubbing salt into the wound.

"I'm sure he would like me to say I've been robbed, and I would agree. And it's not like he hasn't got enough already."

ITV's 'The X Factor' was named Best Entertainment Progamme for the second year running, while BBC's 'That Mitchell and Webb look' defeated 'The Catherine Tate Show' to pick up Best Comedy Programme or Series.
