Wendy Richards' no regrets

20-12-2006 13:00

Wendy Richards has no regrets about leaving 'EastEnders'.

The 63-year-old, who has played Pauline Fowler since the show began in 1985, revealed she was glad to leave Albert Square for good this year.

She said: "I've had no regrets about leaving the show. I wasn't too happy with Pauline's storylines towards the end.

"When you have given a third of your life to a character, you have a certain loyalty. I decided it was best to leave."

Wendy, who has now turned her hand to TV presenting, says she always knew 'EastEnders' would be successful.

She explained: "I knew it would be a hit when I first saw Albert Square. It was the best outdoor set I had ever seen. Of course, it's much bigger nowadays. It's the anticipation of walking on to that magnificent set that I will really miss."

Wendy says the other thing she will miss is her onscreen pet Betty.
