Meet Jekyl

Meet Hyde

Tom Bateman joins forces with Richard E Grant and Natalie Gumede in ITV's brand new ten-part action adventure drama Jekyll & Hyde, born from an idea conceived by iconic novelist Charlie Higson.

The fantasy series has of course been inspired by The Strange Case of Dr Jekyll and Mr Hyde by Robert Louis Stevenson, with Higson now writing the show and taking the role of executive producer on the drama.

Bateman steps into the lead as Robert Jekyll, with Richard E Grant taking on Sir Roger Bulstrode - a man who sits at the head of the secret government department M10, also known as The Invisible Men. Former Coronation Street actress Natalie Gumede will take the part of Bella, who forms part of a complicated love triangle with Robert.

Set in 1930s London when Hollywood glamour, monster movies and aerodynamic cars were all the rage, the series will be paying homage to the Stevenson novel whilst focusing on the young and attractive troubled hero Robert Jekyll - the grandson of the original doctor.

Hoping to discover his real identity and true family history, Jekyll's plagued by a 'curse' which he intends to get to the bottom of. He himself transforms into Hyde in moments of extreme anger, when stressed or when his life or the lives of others are put in danger.

Young and sensitive, Jekyll is a naive man of intellect and morality who's always meaning well despite unwillingly slipping between his two personas.

The opening episode will see Jekyll living his life with foster parents in Ceylon as a newly qualified doctor. Knowing nothing of his history or condition, his 'curse' is controlled with medicated by his foster father Dr Vishal Najaran. Going with Jekyll on his path to discovery, viewers will be transported to a dark and unforgiving place with our hero, who's also being hunted by shadowy forces obsessed with finding the source of his powers.

Further casting comes in the form of Stephanie Hyam, Donald Sumpter, Amit Shah, Phil McKee, Christian McKay, Ruby Bentall, Enzo Cilenti, Lolita Chakrabarti, Michael Karim and Ace Bhatti.

Colin Teague directs with production having took place in Sri Lanka and filming in London.

Jekyll & Hyde premieres on ITV tonight (October 25) at 6.30pm.
