FemaleFirst chats to Mikaela Hoover about her forthcoming projects, horror movies and more in a new and exclusive interview.

Mikaela Hoover

When did you realise acting was the career path you wanted to go down?

I guess I have pretty much always know that I wanted to be an actress. As early as I can remember I would put on plays with my cousin and make my dad record them. In kindergarten I started doing the school plays and it just continued.

How were family and friends when you decided this is what you wanted to do longterm?

My family and friends have always been extremely supportive because they have known it's all I've ever wanted. My parents have truly gone above and beyond in not only supporting me but also encouraging me to follow my dreams. My dad's
only wish was that I made sure to go to college for theatre and study my craft. I [am] so extremely lucky to have parents that have been so amazing and understanding with all of this.

What can you tell us about new webseries Zombie Basement and the character you'll be playing?

The zombie apocolypse has just happened and these two guys(Daryl Sabara and Graham Rogers) are surviving in their basement with their mom (Angela Kinsey). They decide to film their own webseries for everyone who is still alive and hasn’t turned into a zombie.

What drew you to this project?

All of the people involved in this project are so extremely talented, it was a no brainer.

You'll also be appearing in upcoming short horror flick Hide and Seek, how was the experience of filming that?

Amazing! I am a huge horror fan so being able to be in one of my own was such a great experience. We filmed at night which was even creepier!

Carles Torrens was in the directors chair for that movie and Peter Safran produced, what were they like to work with?

Incredible. I had been lucky enough to work with Peter Safran on Sparky and Mikaela and Super so I was very excited to be able to work with him again. He is such a nice guy and is a brilliant producer. I was also very excited to work with Carles because I had seen his work and was a fan.

In the past you've starred in Super, How I Met Your Mother and Happy Endings to name just three - what are some of your career highlights?

I loved playing Jackie on Happy Endings. It was really exciting to be in the pilot and then be able to come back. Her character was so much fun! I can honestly say though that I am so blessed because every project I get to work on is a highlight. I can only hope that continues.

What goes through your mind when you first start on a new project with new people?

I love meeting new people. I have been so lucky to meet some of my closest friends on set like James Gunn, Nathan Fillion and Aly Michalka.

If you could work alongside anyone, who would it be and why?

Wes Craven. Scream and A Nightmare on Elm Street are still my favourite films so that would be a dream. I would also love to work with director James Wan because I think Insidious is brilliant.

Who would you choose to 'play for a day' if you could step into the shoes of any TV character?

Probably Dean Winchester from the show Supernatural. That show is my guilty obsession.

What advice do you have for aspiring actors?

Take as many classes as you can and learn your craft!

Finally is there anything else you're currently involved with that you can share some details about?

I have a short film called Another Happy Anniversary circling around the film festivals soon. It's a comedy and involves some great actors (Nikki Deloach, Hayes MacArthur) to name a few and is directed by Miranda Bailey.
