Almost half of men (45%) surveyed admitted to preferring action and adventure movies, whereas 42% of females said they'd prefer a television drama. In contrast to this, 13% of men revealed they'd choose to watch a romantic comedy whilst over a quarter of women (29%) enjoy instead to watch an action or adventure flick.

Taste trends vary across the country, with Londoners opting for action and adventure (39%), the Scots and Welsh craving TV drama (40%), and those in Northern Ireland putting romantic comedies (38%) at the top of the pile.

Less than half of those questioned (48%) said they govern the remote on a typical night at home, with a battle of the spouses taking place across the regions. Only one in five (21%) women in the South East allow their husbands to control the television, with almost the same amount of men dictating what to watch in Northern Ireland and 19% of Northern Irish wives controlling the TV.

Reaching for a savoury treat on their nights in are those living in Wales (44%), the North West (42%), Scotland (43%) and Northern Ireland (48%), with others opting for things to indulge their sweet tooth.

Marketing Director of Walkers, Thomas Barkholt commented: "It's great to see that a family night in continues to be a favourite past-time across the UK, but more interestingly, how varied the nation's viewing TV habits are. Evidently, everyone's tastes are different, a trend which is reflected in new products like the Walkers MixUps which offer something for everyone to enjoy."
