URBAN MUSIC ARTISTS OF THE FUTURE HUGO URBAN RULES Wednesday 3rd December, Cargo, London
The UK’s biggest ever girl band, the Sugababes, who have notched up a whopping 10 million record sales, are the latest artists to sign up to HUGO URBAN RULES – the nationwide music programme from HUGO Fragrances that uncovers and invests in new talent. Heidi, Keisha and Amelle are perfect ambassadors for HUGO URBAN RULES. The winning artist will not only have their music professionally produced and released but they will be performing live on stage before the Sugababes at the exclusive London showcase event at Cargo on 3rd December, which is filmed and later broadcasted on MTV.
HUGO URBAN RULES is the only existing urban music platform that offers promising artists the chance to meet and receive invaluable advice from their musical idols. Previous artists have included Estelle, Jamelia, Amerie and Amy Winehouse. The Sugababes, who release album number six this month – Catfights & Spotlights, have had a record breaking career with six No.1 singles, two No.1 albums and have won a staggering 16 awards. The girls have even made it into the Guinness Book of Records becoming the first Brit act to top the singles charts on downloads alone with About You Now, so HUGO Fragrances felt they would be the ideal headliners for HUGO URBAN RULES.
In addition, a panel of music industry experts, including BBC 1Xtra’s Twin B and Kiss FM’s Manny Norté, will host master classes on a range of subjects designed to kick-start the careers of budding talented artists or bands who want to break into the UK urban music scene. To get involved, upcoming artists must upload their music demos at: www.hugofragrances.com/urbanrules by 17th November. Fifteen of the best submissions will be chosen to attend a two-day session of master classes and auditions on the 2nd and 3rd December, at Rich Mix, receiving expert tuition on subjects such as:
Vocal coaching from Don-E, producer for the likes of Beverley Knight and Grace Jones Stage-craft from Isaac “Turbo” Baptiste – choreographer & tour performer with the likes of Will Smith and Madonna Artist Q&A – a personal insight, from artists including the Sugababes themselves, into their experiences of the music industry
After the auditions and master classes comes the main event - the intimate Sugababes live music gig with the newly crowned HUGO URBAN RULES winner as support act. Then MOBO Award-winning Kiss FM DJ Manny Norté will be manning the decks on the night, spinning the freshest hip hop, R’n’B and dancehall bangers. Career highlights for Manny include touring with hip hop superstars Nas and Nelly, as well as DJing for Mariah Carey and Destiny’s Child at their high profile album launch parties.
This is a ticket only event and places are limited. Music lovers should register for free tickets at www.hugofragrances.com/urbanrules by 24th November. Whilst online, why not request a free sample from the HUGO Fragrance collection? 500 lucky music fans will be invited to attend the gig, where they will receive complimentary drinks and a goody bag containing HUGO Fragrances.
