Shayne Ward wants to return to 'The X Factor' as a judge.
The 28-year-old star - who won the ITV talent show in 2005 - would like to follow in the footsteps of Cheryl Cole, who shot to fame when she became a member of Girls Aloud on 'Popstars: The Rivals' in 2002, and use his experience to become a panellist on the new series of the programme.
He said: "When Cheryl joined 'X Factor' lots of people said, 'Why is she on it?' But she had a right to be there. She went through a talent show.
"Like Cheryl, I went on the show, competed, I won and I have a valuable opinion.
"That is why she was so great on the show -- because people knew she had a right to say what she said."
Shayne would love to star on the panel alongside former judge Sharon Osbourne - who appeared on the show from 2004 to 2007 - because they could "flirt all the time".
He added to The Sun newspaper: "Bring me and Sharon back -- we'll just be flirting all the time.
"I do miss Sharon. When I did the show people were just waiting for our banter."
Shayne is currently competing on ITV skating show 'Dancing on Ice', and last year he starred in 1980s-themed musical 'Rock of Ages' in London's West End.
