Shobna Gulati claims she is nothing like her 'Coronation Street' alter-ego.

The 45-year-old actress - who plays Sunita Alahan in the ITV soap - admits many fans may be surprised by how little she is like her friendly character.

She said: "What would people be most surprised to know about me? That Sunita is really sweet and I'm not! They're writing bitchier storylines for her now, though - so maybe that side is going to come out."

Shobna - who has also had roles in 'Dinnerladies' and 'Where the Heart Is' - enjoys her time on the set of the Manchester soap, but admits she prefers the company of her female co-stars to the men.

She told Inside Soap magazine "My best friends on 'Corrie'? Kate Ford and Kym Marsh - all of the girls, really. The boys are a different kettle of fish, but girls rule!

"I've also been working a lot with Brooke Vincent, who plays Sophie, who's really grown up since I first joined the show. I've got to know her very well. You do make a lot of friends on 'Corrie'."
