Sir Tom Jones chose Sam Buttery for his team on 'The Voice' because he reminds him of himself.
The 20-year-old singer has made it through the battle rounds to become one of Tom's five contestants and the legendary crooner admitted he heard something of himself in Sam's original audition.
He explained: "There were a few notes in there that I thought sounded like me -sounded like me in my head anyway. I think he's got a great voice."
Tom also believes it was important that he couldn't initially see the contestants on 'The Voice' and says the blind auditions - where the coaches have their backs to the singers - are the most important part of the competition as they allowed him to choose singers without any preconceptions towards them.
He told Radio Times magazine: "I like to see new talent emerging and it was important in the auditions that we didn't know the stories of the people performing or even what they looked like. We're not thrown by the fact that someone might have five children and been trying to make it for ten years."
