Spencer Matthews is returning to 'Made in Chelsea'.
The reality star moved to Channel 5 to appear as 'The Bachelor' - a series where a number of girls compete to date him - but after it suffered poor ratings he will return to E4 for the fourth series of the show on which he made his name.
An insider told The Sun newspaper: "Spencer has realised that he needs the show as 'The Bachelor' wasn't the ratings success that he hoped so he slunk back with his tail between his legs."
Spencer flew to St Tropez in France with the rest of the 'Made in Chelsea' cast last month to start filming the new series.
While 'The Bachelor' was not a great success, bosses were keen to have Spencer back - despite his moving to a rival channel and being pictured taking drugs - because another show regular, Hugo Taylor, also left.
The source added: "Spencer is too valuable to lose. Bosses knew they couldn't continue to go from strength to strength and have a ratings winner for series four if they lost their two main guys Spencer and Hugo.
"They saw the impact Mark Wright leaving 'The Only Way is Essex' had on the show so decided it wasn't worth the risk and signed Spencer again despite his coke shame and him defecting to a rival channel.
"Spencer has promised to tone down his partying but his close friends know that he will never change because that's just who he is."
Spencer insists he was never fired or left 'Made in Chelsea', saying: "Why leave? It is doing really well in the ratings so it's best to stick with it."
