American Gods is the critically-acclaimed novel from famed writer Neil Gaiman, telling the story of a brewing war between the traditional Old Gods, and the modern-day New Gods. While the Old Gods enjoy being rooted in mythology from across the world, they’re slowly fading into irrelevance as their believers die off or become seduced by the New Gods’ offer of money, technology and celebrity.

Now, a brand new trailer for the series has been revealed, teasing some huge bloody battles. Check it out below:

Ricky Whittle (The 100, Hollyoaks) leads the cast as protagonist ex-con Shadow Moon, a guy who’s released from prison only to discover his wife Laura Moon (Emily Browning) has died. Enlisted for a job not even he is sure will take him down the right route by a mysterious man known only as Mr. Wednesday (Ian McShane), viewers will be transported into a world they never knew existed and introduced to some incredibly intriguing characters.

Gillian Anderson also stars as Media, the mouthpiece for the New Gods, alongside Pablo Schreiber as Mad Sweeney, Yetide Badaki as Bilquis and a strong supporting cast, including Kristin Chenoweth who can be seen in the new trailer as Easter.

Produced by Fremantle North, American Gods is written by showrunners Bryan Fuller and Michael Green. David Slade directs the pilot and additional episodes, with Craig Cegielski and Stefani Berk serving as executive producers alongside Fuller, Green, Slade, Adam Kane and author Neil Gaiman.

American Gods comes to UK viewers on May 1, 2017, exclusively to Amazon Prime Video.
