Also writing and directing the show, the series is "loosely based" on his own life experiences, following the personal and professional paths 30-year-old Dev takes in New York, who has trouble in making choices in even the simplest of decisions.

His story takes him through some diverse subjects including "the plight of the elderly, the immigrant experience, and how to find the most delicious pasta for dinner."

Ansari cast his own parents Fatima and Shoukath to play Dev's parents in the show, and said to People about the decision: "It was definitely hard because they'd never acted before, and I think when you're trying to get someone who's a non-actor to do these things, the tricky part is teaching them to stop trying and to be very natural and not try to be funny... So it took a little bit to get that, but they picked up pretty fast. They were both really good. It makes you realise how easy acting is."

Alan Yang co-creates the show and serves as executive producer alongside Ansari, as well as Michael Schur, Dave Becky and David Miner.

No premiere date has yet been set for Master of None.
