Game of Thrones will see the return of Bran Stark in its sixth season, it's been confirmed by actor Isaac Hempstead who plays him.

After a season-long absence, Bran's presence will be felt on the HBO drama when filming begins at the end of this month, with fans last seeing him and Hodor (Kristian Nairn) in the season four finale 'The Children'.

Speaking to the Irish Examiner, Isaac said: "I can't say a lot, but I am back this season and it's going to get particularly interesting with Bran. He has some interesting visions."

Meanwhile viewers have been assured by showrunner David Benioff that Bran's absence is integral to his narrative.

He said: "It would be far less interesting, after The Empire Strikes Back, to have an hour-long movie in between Empire and Return of the Jedi where Luke is training. It's so much cooler to cut from the end of Empire to the beginning of Return, where he's become the Jedi."

And so the question of how Bran will have changed when we return will reign supreme until the new batch of episodes debut.

Game of Thrones returns to HBO and Sky Atlantic in 2016.
