American Gods will finally make its debut on Starz in the US tomorrow (April 30) and on Amazon Prime Video in the UK on Monday (May 1). Bringing Ricky Whittle, Ian McShane and an all-star cast to the small screen, the series will adapt the Neil Gaiman fantasy novel of the same name, telling the story of the old gods and the new, whose battling seems to be leading them towards war.

One of the fan favourite characters from American Gods is Mr. Nancy, aka Anansi, played by Orlando Jones. Also the subject of Gaiman’s novel Anansi Boys, Mr. Nancy is one of the most compelling and intriguing people that Shadow Moon (Whittle) meets in his journey.

Speaking as part of roundtable interviews with the media, American Gods co-showrunner Bryan Fuller has admitted how he’d like to also bring Anansi Boys to the small screens if given the opportunity.

He said: “If we ever get the rights to Anansi Boys, that will be the first spinoff of the show because Orlando is so fantastic and deserves his own show. That character is so rich and has such a giant history that if we are so successful that we get to have a spinoff, [Anansi Boys] would probably be our first choice.”

Author Gaiman added: “The rights to Anansi Boys are currently elsewhere, they’re with a couple of UK production companies… who have been working on putting it together for the BBC for a few years. What will happen there remains to be seen. I hope they get to make it, if they don’t, probably the rights will wander back here, unless someone swoops in and decides to make a movie of it first.”

American Gods hits the small screen on Sunday, April 30 in the US on Starz and comes to Amazon Prime Video in the UK every Monday thereafter.
