The 31-year-old PE teacher, who was crowned the champion on the shows series finale on Wednesday (26.10.16), admitted throughout the competition she had used her grandparent's recipes to help her gain the title of Star Baker, and although she is pleased with the outcome, she wished her relative was still alive to be filled with pride too.

Speaking to the Daily Mirror newspaper, the red-haired beauty said: "I love my family, everything I do revolves around my family. My nan, I just hope she would have been proud.

"For me it is unbelievable. Even now I am wide eyed, shaking my head in disbelief. It's just amazing for me, but also for my friends and family, who are so good."

And the star's parents have revealed Candice shared a close bond with Margaret when she was a child, and "always" used to wear her clothes to look like her.

Candice's father Paul said: "[Candice] wanted to be in on the action."

And her mother Susan added: "You always used to like to wear Nan's glasses. Come to that, you wanted to wear her shoes, too."

Although Candice is overwhelmed by her win she has revealed she was terrified of entering the competition and rustling up tray bakes and showstoppers in the shows signature tent.

She explained: "I can't put into words how much it means. The fans of 'Bake Off' are hardcore and amazing, and I am one of those fans.

"I am the biggest critic. I will always find the negatives in things.

"I always worried so much going into it. I never thought I would be close to the tent, let alone be standing close to that cake stand that I now want to wear round my neck as a necklace."
