While the top three contestants on the last season of the ITV show were from other reality TV shows - winner Vicky Pattison from 'Geordie Shore', 'TOWIE's Ferne McCann and former 'X Factor' star George Shelley - the channel has decided to focus on more "credible" celebrities in the future.

A source told The Sun: "This year 'I'm A Celeb' ... wants to go back to its roots by signing up more cult favourites from the past and current, newsworthy personnel.

"The last series got a ribbing for having so many reality show stars and giving them lots of camera time.

"Despite them providing most entertainment, bosses are keen to lure more credible campmates."

It has been claimed that reality TV stars have an unfair advantage, as they have huge social media followings and are used to being followed by cameras.

Other reality stars who have competed on the show in previous seasons include Mark Wright, Joey Essex and Gemma Collins from 'TOWIE'.

Meanwhile, Ferne recently revealed she is desperate to present 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! NOW!' with Vicky.

Speaking exclusively to BANG Showbiz, she said: "Obviously, the jungle is where we met. 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here! NOW!' would be the dream job. I think me and Vick have great banter. She's very quick and witty and I'm not but I bring the lols and the bants."

Producers were forced to go on a frantic search for a new presenter after Laura Whitmore - who had fronted the late-night chatty programme since 2011 - announced earlier this year that she is turning her back on the show after five "incredible years" at the helm in order to spread her wings and compete on 'Strictly Come Dancing'.
