The 51-year-old dance enthusiast and 'X Factor' boss have been at loggerheads ever since their shows became rivals and now Craig has seemingly taken a swipe at the 56-year-old music mogul by suggesting he'd improve his popularity by going on the BBC One ballroom show.

Craig said: "He'd probably love himself too much. I think he's probably got two left feet."

Craig dug the knife in deeper by saying that Simon has been doing "the leg work" in finding stars to come on 'Strictly' because of the likes of Caroline Flack, who won the competition in 2014, after hosting 'The X Factor's sister show, 'The Xtra Factor'.

He told the Daily Star newspaper: "We have celebrities whereas on 'The X Factor' they're wannabes hoping to be famous.

"I'd love to keep 'The X Factor' going because I've employed Alexandra Burke in my 'Sister Act' show.

"Simon Cowell is doing all the leg work for me in finding stars."

This year DJ Melvin Odoom joins the 'Strictly' lineup and he too was a presenter on 'The Xtra Factor'.

Last year, Craig teased that Simon should appear on the show because "he'd get more viewers that way".

At the time, he said: "My thoughts are turning to the Christmas special and I'd love to see Simon Cowell on it.

"He might need to do it after this year's dismal X Factor ratings. At least he'd get more viewers that way."

And Craig also thinks that Simon would fit right in on 'Strictly', quipping: "Simon would fit right in on the dancefloor with those high trousers."

He also had his own views on why 'X Factor's ratings were down, explaining: "I've watched a bit of this series - and there are some fantastic voices, but they've been given terrible material."

'The X Factor' returned to ITV last weekend and only averaged seven million viewers.

This weekend 'Strictly' returns in what will be another rating's battle between the rival shows.
