Cress Williams will be stepping into the shoes of Black Lightning as The CW aim to bring yet another successful show to fans, according to The Hollywood Reporter, working alongside current Arrowverse producer Greg Berlanti.

Originally developed for Fox by Berlanti along with the show’s writers Mara Brock and Salim Akil, the pilot was eventually picked up by The CW and will join other Arrowverse shows – Arrow, The Flash, DC’s Legends of Tomorrow and Supergirl – on the network.

Black Lightning is known to fans as one of the first African-American heroes to be implemented into the world of DC Comics, making his first appearance back in 1977.

Since that time he’s teamed up with the Outsiders and the Justice League amongst others, but it’s a different direction that the TV show’s Black Lightning will be going in.

Raising a family and giving up his life as a hero, Williams’ version of the character will eventually return to the hero scene when his young daughter’s threatened by the rising crime in the neighbourhood. A traditional hero tale for sure.
