Danny Dyer's break from 'EastEnders' has reportedly been causing problems for the show's writers.

The 39-year-old actor recently took a well-deserved break from the long-running BBC soap in order to spend time with his family after having worked non-stop since he joined the cast as loveable landlord Mick Carter in 2013.

Danny has not yet made a return to the show, and sources say writers are "working around the clock" to make amends to storylines that involve Mick, including the funeral of his grandmother.

An insider told the Daily Star newspaper: "It's going to look very odd for Mick not to attend the funeral, but the writers are having to come up with some excuse as to why he cannot be there. We all know Danny comes first so the writers are working around the clock to tweak key stories."

Danny is planning on using his time off from the show to take his childhood sweetheart Joanne Mas - whom he married in September last year after spending 20 years together - away to the Maldives in order to spend some quality time together.

A source said recently: "Since they got married Danny has been working non stop, they haven't had a lot of time together and he wants to make Jo feel special. He's very focused on his family."

The news comes after BBC bosses agreed to give Danny - who shares children Danni, 19, Sunnie, nine and Arty, two, with his wife - a "short break" in order to get some rest and see his family.

A spokesperson for the BBC exclusively told BANG Showbiz: "Danny is on a short break from 'EastEnders'. This was not enforced by bosses nor has he quit the show."
