The 44-year-old actor appears in a villainous role in Netflix's latest Marvel series and David has revealed he never thought twice about accepting the part, even though his appearances in the American crime drama failed to match expectations.

He said: "I didn't really think about it that way, perhaps I should, I don't really think about it that tactfully. I just bumble through from one job to the next, then something like this comes along and you just think 'what an amazing script.'

"It's a fantastic world, the Marvel world, it's such an exciting place to be at all, especially as I grew up reading these comic books, I though it was too good an opportunity to miss."

David plays the part of Kilgrave in the new series and has revealed the sinister villain's powers are mental rather than physical.

He told Metro newspaper: "It's more than powers of persuasion, he doesn't really have to do much persuading, he just has this ability that he can compel people to do whatever he wants them to.

"I can only imagine what a heady thing it would be to be capable of. I imagine it would slightly skew your moral compass, and it's fair to say his moral compass is relatively skewed.

"But yes, he doesn't even need to persuade, and that makes him such a terrifying creation."
