David Tennant is hoping he can get a voice role on Peppa Pig.

The actor has two young children with wife Georgia Moffett, and is stepfather to her 12-year-old son from a previous relationship, and because he's a parent he admits he doesn't get to watch much television other than kids' shows.

Up for voicing a character in the Peppa Pig cartoon, he thinks he'd get "genuine approval" if in a show watched by his children.

Speaking on BBC Radio 1 he said: "I watch a lot of children's television, mostly I watch children's television.

"[Would I voice a character on Peppa Pig?] Of course I would."

On the quality of British children's television, he added: "CBeebies is the only place I'd get genuine approval for working on. The children's television in our country is of very high quality because if you flick on channels not from our country there's a lot of rubbish, so CBeebies and CBBC should be something we're proud of."

Tennant also recently admitted he doesn't see "the point" of holidays, much preferring to stay at home with family when he's out of work.

"These days I don't really see the point of holidays. I never quite know what you're supposed to do.

"It changes a bit when you've got kids but I'm very happy staying at home and pottering around. I'm away so much for work that when I've got time off I just want to stay in London."

However the Scottish actor's not always been so apathetic of getaways, recalling memories of holidaying on an island off the coast of Scotland when younger.

"It was everything you'd expect of a beach holiday in Scotland - freezing temperatures, getting stung by jellyfish and avoiding the sewage outlet as you tried to swim in the sea. If there was a glimpse of sun, there was an imperative to put your trunks on even if it was pretty miserable. But that's what childhood memories are all about isn't it? I loved it."
