The former 'X Factor' host has refused to rule himself out of joining the BBC Radio 2 DJ on 'Top Gear' as he's admitted the 'TFI Friday' star is one of the main reasons he became a presenter.

Asked about rumours he could be part of new host Evans' presenting line-up, he said: "I love my cars but I think Chris would probably ... He's such a main man and he's a big deal for me, he's one of the reasons why I got into television in the first place but I would imagine he'd want his own team on it."

However, the 42-year-old star confessed if he were to join the BBC Two motoring show - which saw former host Jeremy Clarkson sacked earlier this year for punching a producer - he would prefer to be the main host.

He told ITV's 'Good Morning Britain': "The thing is, I think if I was going to do it I'd want to do what Chris is doing, he's in charge of it."

Dermot also admitted he's excited to have some time off this summer as he's usually busy working on 'The X Factor' ahead of it's launch later in the year.

Speaking about his decision to quit the ITV show, he added: "I did eight years and it was a wonderful and fantastic eight years and I won't have a bad word said about it but it felt like the right time this year."
