The Christmas special may still be a few months away, but the actor next stepping into the role of the titular character in Doctor Who is to be revealed this weekend, on BBC One after the Wimbledon’s Men’s Final. See the official tease for the reveal below:

After quitting the role at the start of the year, current Who actor Peter Capaldi has had fans trying to work out exactly who would replace him for almost six months, with a variety of men and women throwing their names into the ring.

With showrunner Steven Moffat also stepping down to be replaced by Broadchurch creator Chris Chibnall, it’s all change on the series.

Current favourites include Broadchurch actress Jodie Whitaker, as well as Death in Paradise star Kris Marshall, who curiously exited his role on the show earlier this year.

With the Wimbledon’s Men’s Final coverage set to finish at around 6.30pm, fans of Doctor Who will be hoping for a cut-and-dry match without delays, so they can discover exactly who will be handed the keys to the TARDIS next!

Doctor Who returns at the end of the year for a Christmas special, before a whole new series with the new Doctor in 2018.
