The 25-year-old actress, who portrays Demelza Poldark in the popular BBC One series, is set to return to the franchise for a fourth series, and though a fifth follow-up has yet to be confirmed she thinks the cast would feel "very lucky and honoured" to film more episodes of the show.

Speaking to The Sun Online about the television adaptation of Winston Graham's saga, the flame-haired beauty said: "If we go to five series that would be a dream. We would be very lucky and honoured to get that far.

"I think if we go to five series then that would be a dream come true -- and how many series have done that?"

Eleanor is set to enjoy an affair in the upcoming series of the programme, after being told her on screen husband Ross Poldark (Aidan Turner) cheated on her with his previous lover Elizabeth Chenoweth (played by Heida Reed), and the star has admitted it was "a lot of fun" filming the risqué scenes where she flirts up a storm with other males.

Speaking about the gripping plot, Eleanor said: "I think that no one would blame Demelza for that after what happened in series two.

"I think she is a fiercely loyal and supportive wife but when that support is ignored constantly by her husband then it is hard to remain as steadfast as she always does. There is plenty of eye candy to catch her attention and that was a lot of fun."

Although Eleanor and Aidan's on-screen romance may be fraught, the 'Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging' star has revealed their off-screen friendship is not as dramatic, but she is honoured to play the 33-year-old actor's partner.

Speaking about her co-star, she said: "He is one of the nation's heart-throbs and he is a gentleman and a sweetheart. We are the greatest of friends and it is a honour to play his wife."
