A lot of speculation has hit the internet and beyond ever since Game of Thrones came to the small screen. Whether it’s about the characters, the future of the show or something else altogether, it’s fair to say that the series is one of the most talked about in modern culture.

Now, speaking to Style Magazine, actress Emilia Clarke who plays Daenerys Targaryen on the fantasy show seemingly shot down one particular rumour, which suggested her character would rule alongside Jon Snow when all was said and done, as hinted to by the novel series that it’s based off, A Song of Ice and Fire by George R R Martin.

She explained: “I think that she has ultimately put aside her own need for a man. She is so engaged and wrapped up in leading and being the queen and ruling and fulfilling her birth right that the idea of someone coming in and sharing that title is probably something she’s not comfortable with.”

Though that sounds like a spoiler, we must remember that this is simply what Clarke thinks, rather than what she may have been told by showrunners. With seven new episodes set to come to viewers this summer, making up the series’ penultimate seventh season, there’s only a limited amount of time left for this story to reach its conclusion.

Game of Thrones has been confirmed to end with its eighth season, which will consist of an even shorter six episodes. Recently it’s been suggested that the show’s final season could be delayed until 2019, but nothing official has yet been confirmed.

Game of Thrones returns on July 16 in the US on HBO, and on July 17 on Sky Atlantic in the UK.
