Netflix have today revealed that their hugely popular original series The Crown will be returning for its second season in December, also dropping four first look images from the slew of new episodes that will come to fans. Check out the date announcement video and pictures from the new season below:

With Queen Elizabeth’s marriage and empire crumbling before her eyes, she must do whatever is required to ensure that the British monarchy – a staple of the United Kingdom – survives against all of the odds.

Ushering in the revolutionary 1960s era, the second season sees soldiers in Her Majesty’s Armed Forces fighting an illegal war in Egypt and the downfall of third Prime Minister Harold Macmillan under Elizabeth II’s reign.

Bringing some of the major political and global events that have defined the second half of the 20th century to the small screen, The Crown is without a doubt one of the most unique shows available on television, with a vision like no other.

Creator and writer Peter Morgan reunites with director Stephen Daldry and producer Andy Harries on the second season.

The Crown makes its return to Netflix on December 8, 2017.
