Based on the novel of the same name by Louisa May Alcott and adapted for television by Heidi Thomas comes brilliant new BBC series Little Women, directed by Vanessa Caswill. This week, a first look trailer for the show has been revealed, which you can check out below:

Little Women follows the story of the four March sisters; Jo (Maya Hawke), Meg (Willa Fitzgerald), Beth (Annes Elwy) and Amy (Kathryn Newton) as they learn to live with the ramifications of having a father (Dylan Baker) away at war. Not only that, but they’ll embark on one of the most important journeys of their lives, from childhood to adulthood, all under the guidance of their mother Marmee (Emily Watson).

With gender roles, sibling rivalry, first love, losses and marriage all at the centre of their universe, they’ll become closer than ever to the charming boy next door, Laurie Laurence (Jonah Hauer-King), and have to deal with wealthy Aunt March (Angela Lansbury) and their benevolent neighbour, Mr. Laurence (Michael Gambon).

As relevant today as it was back during original publication in 1868, Little Women looks set to be one of the most beloved shows of the festive period.

Commissioned by Piers Wenger and Charlotte Moore at the BBC, Little Women is produced by Playground for BBC One and starts on Boxing Day (December 26) at 8pm, with three consecutive nights allowing the drama to play out over the holidays. We can’t wait to watch!
