Whittling down the usual 10 episodes to 7, the show will also not be aired until some point in the summer, but no solid date has yet been given.

HBO Programming President, Casey Bloys said in a blog: "Now that winter has arrived on Game of Thrones, Executive Producers David Benioff and D.B. Weiss felt that the storylines of the next season would be better served by starting production a little later than usual, when the weather is changing.

"Instead of the show's traditional spring debut, we're moving the debut to summer to accommodate the shooting schedule."

Additionally it was also revealed that the series would be filmed in Northern Ireland, Spain and Iceland.

Confirmation also came that Mark Mylod, Jeremy Podeswa, Matt Shakman and Alan Taylor will be directing the episodes that make up season 7.
