The 'Only Way is Essex' star has made no secret that she'd like to head back into the outback later this year after she quit the creepy-crawly show a little prematurely in 2014, and now it looks like her wish has been granted as bosses are keen to sign her up after host Declan Donnelly backed her return.

A source told The Sun Online: "Gemma has been backed by Dec, he thought she was really good [last time she was on] and he told Gemma she would be great if she came back to the show.

"She's riding on the crest of a wave right now - she's doing well on 'TOWIE', she massive on social media after all the memes and and everyone is a bit obsessed with her.

"She in talks to sign up but it's early days. Nothing is set in stone yet.

"Producers know there's a bit of heat around her right now so she would be great on the show. Gemma really wants a chance to prove herself and set the record straight."

Gemma hit the headlines three years ago when she agreed to take part in the series, set in the Australian jungle, but refused to parachute into camp with her cast mates due to her anxiety and then pulled out of the programme after spending just 72 hours in the outback.

The 36-year-old blonde babe claimed at the time her exit was due to "health issues" and, although she wasn't in camp for very long, she was so "scared" of the gruelling challenges.

She said recently: "I think people think I'm so confident. They probably look at me and think I don't doubt myself but actually I do, so when they said I was going into the jungle, I was so scared because I've been there once, I sort of know what to do again. I would probably be terrible at the challenges."

This isn't the first time bosses have asked Gemma to return to the jungle as they also approached her in 2015 - a year after her original stint - but she turned them down due to issues going on at home.

She explained: "Do you know what? I was meant to go back in the jungle the year after I came out but it didn't happen. There's something that went on that not too many people know about - The night before I went in the jungle. But if it came up again, why not?"

The next instalment of 'I'm A Celebrity... Get Me Out of Here!' will hit television screens in the autumn time but, as of yet, not much is known about the forthcoming series.
