'Splash!' star Gemma Merna has undergone hypnotherapy to prepare for the show and conquer her fear of water.

The 'Hollyoaks' actress has turned to psychotherapy in a bid to overcome her water worries ahead of the new series of the ITV diving show after an incident in which - as a child - she nearly drowned.

Despite being coached by Olympic bronze medallist diver Tom Daly, the blonde beauty has been suffering from panic attacks while training at the pool and has called on an expert to help.

Gemma told the Daily Star newspaper: "When I was seven I had swimming lessons and I literally was thrown in the deep end.

"I struggled and almost drowned. It's haunted me ever since.

"When I first stood on the diving board I was panicking and I've had to get help."

Meanwhile, 'The Only Way is Essex' star Gemma Collins thinks she has perfected her diving skills while training for 'Splash!' and joked she might even give Tom a run for his money at the next Olympics.

She previously said: "I'm not going to lie - the training is exhausting. But I feel that at Rio in 2016, Tom might have some competition.

"I've asked for the most sequins and crystals possible on my costume, in true Essex fashion!"

The two Gemmas will face stiff competition from The Saturdays singer Una Foden, TV presenter Michaela Strachan, former 'EastEnders' star Ricky Groves and Diversity's Perri Kiely when the programme returns to screens on Saturday (04.01.14).
