Netflix have today announced an agreement with Warner Bros. Worldwide Television Distribution, making the streaming service the exclusive subscription video on-demand (SVOD) home of the highly anticipated new series Gotham.

Each season of the series is to be available to Netflix members following linear broadcast beginning in 2015.

With a September 22 premiere in the United States, the series will explore the origins of characters in the Batman universe as young Detective and future Commissioner James Gordon meets recently orphaned Bruce Wayne in the troubled days of Gotham City.

A stellar cast including Ben McKenzie, Donal Logue, Jada Pinkett Smith and Sean Pertwee join the series in an entirely new and never-before-discovered chapter.

“Gotham is the most anticipated new series of the autumn season and we are thrilled to offer it to our members around the world,” said Ted Sarandos, Chief Content Officer at Netflix. “The Batman origins story is sure to have massive global appeal so it is fitting that, along with Warner Television, we have created a new model for distributing a show that international and domestic audiences will love.”

Gotham premieres in the UK this autumn on Channel 5 before Netflix picks it up online next year.
