Benefits Street's White Dee

Benefits Street's White Dee

A 48-year-old jobless grandmother is to become the new star of 'Benefits Street'.

Dot Taylor - who hasn't worked for 20 years - claims she is the "mother hen" of the street in Stockton-on-Tees where the upcoming second series of the Channel 4 observational documentary series is being filmed.

And she's confessed she wants to become a star like Deidre 'White Dee' Kelly - who is currently appearing on 'Celebrity Big Brother' - of James Turner Street in Birmingham, where the first series was filmed.

She said: "I could go in there [the 'Big Brother' house] after this. The things I'd get up to, it'd be brilliant. I could be famous. I wouldn't mind being the next White Dee."

Standing at 4 ft and 11 inches, she added: "I'm fun, me, because of my size. I act like a kid. I don't mind what people think."

Dot lives with her husband - with whom she has fours sons aged 30, 28, 27 and 22 - in a council house on Cowper Road, near Kingston Road, where the series is being filmed.

The couple - who have lived off benefits for over two decades - have six grandchildren under seven-years-old and have another on the way.

Dot told The Sun newspaper: "I stopped working for my kids, really. Most of them, they say you have to have loads of qualifications, but most people who even have the qualifications can't get a job anyway."

Speaking about her neighbourhood, she added: "We can all go out and leave our doors open, you can trust your neighbours."
