HBO Now have made threats to viewers outside of the United States who use their streaming service, stating that if and when they find out their true location their accounts will be suspended.

Not available in overseas territories, some users have managed to access HBO Now through VPN software and other tools which unlocks region-restricted content.

Users in Canada, Germany, Australia and the United Kingdom have been contacted by HBO and told that they'll be cut off from the service unless they can prove that they're accessing it legitimately, according to TorrentFreak.

A deadline of yesterday was given for users to offer proof they have the right to watch HBO Now shows, with those who don't respond facing suspension.

HBO isn't the only service provider tackling this sort of access, with Netflix now implementing measures to clamp down on similar situations.

The broadcaster's also clamping down on piracy with warning letters being sent out to people who have illegally downloaded episodes of Game of Thrones. No legal action will be brought about to those people, however.
