Julianna Margulies in The Good Wife

ITV are planning to remake The Good Wife.

The channel is developing a drama which has considerable similarities to the hit US show starring Emmy Award winner Julianna Margulies.

According to RadioTimes.com, ITV is considering a pitch for the show, which could air over four series consisting of 10 episodes.

'The Good Wife', which launched in 2009, follows lawyer Alicia Florrick (Julianna) as she is forced to return to work and keep her family afloat after her husband is engulfed in a political scandal.

'Sex and the City' veteran Chris Noth plays Alicia's spouse, Peter Florrick, a former state's attorney who is jailed following a public sex and corruption storm.

The show - which airs on More4 in the UK - has been a huge critical success and earned numerous awards for its stars, including British actress Archie Panjabi, who plays private investigator Kalinda Sharma.

While British remakes of US shows are rare, ITV previously adapted hit franchise 'Law & Order' for British viewers in 2009.

'Law & Order: UK' has aired eight successful seasons but earlier this month ITV confirmed plans for an indefinite hiatus after lead actor Bradley Walsh quit the show.
