Jamie Dornan has said he was "shaking" after being told what would happen in the second series The Fall.

The actor plays murderer Paul Spector in the BBC crime drama, and suggests that fans can expect to see his character make mistakes in the new batch of episodes, with plot developments making him excited.

Talking to Shortlist magazine he explained: "When I got the breakdown for the second series, I was shaking.

"The scale of it has grown, there are twists and turns and there are moments which I can't say too much about."

The show's first series was broadcast last year and showed Jamie playing a serial killer, investigated by The X Files actress Gillian Anderson - known in the show as Detective Superintendent Stella Gibson.

However Jamie has suggested that the criminal mastermind's plans may begin to crumble in the new series - starting November 13 - making for an interesting relationship between Paul and Stella.

"Cracks start to appear and Stella gets a bit of a foot in. That's what makes it great television, and it's probably explored slightly more in the second series. It's what I love the most about him."

He also added that viewers are drawn to his character because of his vulnerable side.

"Obviously what he's doing is horrific - pure evil - but we get to see a human, relatable side to him at work and with his family which makes it more chilling to watch.

"You are literally thinking that it could be your next door neighbour. And I've had people say, 'He's a sick bastard, but I kind of wanted him to get away with it.'"
