The legendary duo are set to return to the ice skating competition show, which hasn't been seen on screens since 2014 when it was pulled off air due to a flop in ratings, next year but, rather than reclaiming their coaching roles, bosses are considering putting them on the panel so that they will be rating celebrities and their partners.

A source told The Sun newspaper: "Torvill and Dean loved their years spent teaching celebrities how to skate but they want to change things up for the new series. Now they are in talks to become judges, where they will finally get to have a proper say on what they think about the celebrities taking part.

"In the original format they were there to help them along the way, but this will mean they can use their gold medal winning expertise to decide who continues in the competition. If anyone is qualified to be a judge, it's them, and it would be a great way to shake up the format and give it a new lease of life."

Although not much else is known about the reboot, it's believed bosses are desperate to snap up Jason Gardiner, who was known for his nasty remarks on the panel, again as a judge alongside Torvill and Dean.

A source said previously: "The show just wouldn't be the same without Jason so ITV are pulling out all the stops to get him back on the panel. Viewers absolutely loved his ruthless comments. ITV have given the show a big budget to ensure that the comeback is a huge success."

Producers are also on the hunt for other professional ice skaters to join the show to work as trainers alongside Christopher's wife Karen Barber in order to prepare the celebrities for their routines every week.

'Dancing On Ice' was pulled off air three years ago but fans jumped for joy earlier this year when it was confirmed it would be making a comeback at the beginning of 2018.

Olympian Jayne later teased that the show will have a "refreshed" look when it returns.

She said: "I love that it's coming back, it's great news - I'm really looking forward to it.

"The show will definitely be refreshed but the basics will be the same, we will still be teaching celebrities how to skate. It was a different sort of platform being in the studio - we like to be creative and come up with new things. There's a new bar to set when the show returns."
