The 'Coronation Street' legend, who played cleaner Hilda Ogden in the ITV soap, passed away earlier this month just three days after her 90th birthday.

Jean's funeral was a private ceremony held at Southport Crematorium not far from her home in Churchtown, Merseyside, which was attended by her close friends and family, including her brother Kenneth Hodgkinson, 91, and her nieces Sonia Hearld, 64, and Valerie Thewlis, 60.

Rev Martin Abrams - the chaplain at the Southport and Ormskirk hospital where Jean passed away - led the service for the mourners.

Speaking about the memorial, Sonia told The Liverpool Echo newspaper: "It went very, very well. It was quiet and private as we hoped. It was a fitting tribute to her. It was dignified and quiet."

Jean walked the Weatherfield cobbles as lovable character Hilda for 23 years from 1964 until 1987.

The iconic TV role made her a household name across Britain and saw her receive a Best Actress nomination at the 1987 BAFTAs as well as receiving a Royal Television Society Award for her performance on the show in 1985.

In 2005, the UK TV Times poll voted Jean as the "greatest soap opera star of all time".
