Jenna Coleman has hinted that she may be leaving Doctor Who sooner than anyone thought.

The actress plays the Time Lord's companion Clara Oswald in the BBC One sci-fi drama, and despite just completing her first series with Peter Capaldi at the helm as the new Doctor, she's uncertain about her future on the show.

Speaking to Radio Times magazine about potential role reprisal, she said: "There's lots of rumours. We've sat down with [showrunner] Steven Moffat and we've all decided we don't want anybody to know which way it's going."

Coleman insisted that this series would be ruined if she did let slip any details.

"If you know I'm in the next series - or if you know I'm off - you'll know how the story ends."

She also has high hopes that her fellow cast will keep quiet about the major storyline coming up.

"Because there's a surprise we've got coming, it's much better that nobody knows which way it's going to go - so that's where we're trying to keep it at the moment."

Doctor Who continues Saturday on BBC One.
